It was early September, and I had been surfing the internet to find good informative videos on the blockchain. Surprisingly enough I found a video called “Blockchain use cases with a ReturnonSociety TEDxFHKufstein” by Robert Schwertner. And this video was incredible and left such a great impression on my understanding of blockchain basics with hashes and such to its uses in examples such as Solara and sport. It was because of this video that I had decided to look into Mr. Schwertner. Therefore, I had found his LinkedIn and started to read about him, but the more I read the more I felt the decrease in confidence in meeting with him. However, putting aside my doubt, I went ahead and contacted him through LinkedIn and later followed up through email. And To my astonishment, he replied and said he would be interested in speaking with me regarding blockchain.
Soon it was November 24th and it was time to meet him, I was so excited to meet someone of such expertise, which he validated through his enthusiasm and confidence. Going into this meeting I want to know his take on blockchain, what he believed in its future, and his experiences related to blockchain. It is officially 10:30 am on November 24th and I start the meeting by asking how he was introduced to blockchain. Similar to my previous interviewee Mr.Roy, Mr. Schwertner stated that it was pure luck, one day he was given the opportunity to study and research blockchain with the government in Australia. But soon after researching about it, he started to see the value in it and soon with his expertise started to present and take part in events such as the OECD Global Blockchain Policy Forum. I then asked him of his thoughts on the future of blockchain, to which he answered he is not sure since blockchain is still such a new technology and time will be needed to develop a good answer to my question. He instead told me up to different blockchain-based ideas and uses that he found interesting such as Dao( Decentralized autonomous Organizations - fully open to the public making it susceptive to hacking ), Iota, and Polkadot. I found it really interesting as he spoke of a solution to Bitcoin slow system. Because bitcoin relies on miners to transfer items from place to place, with the increasing demand for blockchain and increase in transfers, this process has become slow. Therefore he mentioned a company named Polkadot, which is developing a para chain, this is where 2 blockchains are being made together and each block in the blockchain can refer to any block in the 2 blockchains, making the whole process much more efficient. I found this especially interesting because ever since I read about mining and the decrease in efficiency regarding blockchain, I was researching to try to find a solution to the issue, and gladly the solution was made clear to me during the interview. Then we started to move on to our second big topic which was the multiverse, which is the basic creation of a Virtual reality that is almost exact to reality, and its uses with blockchain. We talked about the retail side of the metaverse, where members could go shopping in an almost real VR, where they can try on clothing, shoes, and more. Giving the customers the experience of shopping in a mall or shopping complex at home and in the comforts of their own. Another use of metaverse, which is more well known is in gaming. Imagine putting on some gear ( VR gear/ tech) and being able to step into a whole new world where you can feel, see and touch different in adamant objects. You can visit the nonexistent world while feeling as if you are really in the location, experiencing it. Similarly, people can meet from all over the world, talk, and almost have a real-life conversation experience without having to go anywhere physically. We spoke about the endless possibilities with the new and upcoming technology of Metaverse. And after our long decision on these two topics, my meeting came to a close.
This meeting was very beneficial to me as he had told me many new uses for blockchain and some methods to learn them better. Therefore I would like to sincerely say thank you to Mr.Schwertner for his time and for helping me learn so much. Thank you.
